 ROOM TO READ

Room to Read is a national program designed to provide children with a quality education that prepares them to be a positive change in their families and communities. Room to Read aims to help children in low-income communities develop literacy skills and a positive mindset towards reading, which helps to build cognitive skills that leads to success in and out of school.

Room to Read has partnered with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in an effort to transform the lives of our children through education and creating a world free from illiteracy. In doing so, the Savannah (GA) Alumni Chapter partners with area primary schools by visiting classrooms to read books aloud and participating in literacy enrichment activities. It is our hope that our efforts encourage children to foster excitement towards reading, expand their level of comprehension and widen their perspectives at an early age.

Data provided by Room to Read shows that primary schools who participate with this program, have children who read 2 to 3 times faster by the end of second grade with 87% greater comprehension than non-participating Room to Read schools.
